George Francis Fry's Origins

For those of you that may be interested in our family’s history the following details are the outcome of quite
a number of years research and many hours spent staring at a computer screen.
So enjoy if you will.


My known FRYs start with John Fry & Harriet Jones in Southwark about 1794.
John b abt 1770 was a Currier as was his brother Richard b 1765 who married Margaret Long 21 Nov 1789 St Saviour Southwark.

A marriage entry was found in the AllHallows Church Bread Street Parish records for a John Fry and Harriett Jones and is attributed to this couple.

My Great Great Great Grandfather John Fry had 3 children. John b 27 June 1795, Harriet b 18 May 1800 and Matthew b 19 September 1802

Johns son Mathew a Felmonger married Ann LOVEGROVE on 22 February 1830 at St
Marys Lambeth Surrey and resided in Bermondsey Square Bermondsey.

My Great Great Grandfather Mathew Fry had 9 children. Matthew John b 26 November 1830, Harriet Ann b 1833, Elizabeth b 1835, Hannah b 1838, George b 1840, Ellaina b 1843, John b 13 December 1844, Sarah b 1848, and Eliza b 1851.

My Great Grandfather John Fry was the 7th child and married Cecelia MANN on 21 May 1866 at Bermondsey Registry Office Surrey.

John was a Carpenter / Turner / Packing case manufacturer in Bermondsey Surrey.

John had 8 children. John b 1865, Ruth b 1870, Celia b 1871, Joseph b 6 April 1872, Benjamin b1878, William b 1879, James b 1880 and Walter b 1884.

My Grandfather Joseph Fry was Johns 4th child and married Elizabeth Emma HOOK on 3 July 1898 at St Lukes Church.
His occupations included a Boot warehouseman Postman and shopkeeper.

Joseph had 7 children. Joseph Edgar b 1899 ?, Cecilia Elizabeth b 8 August 1900, Amy Gertrude b 1902, George William b 14 December 1904, Walter b 29 December 1905 , Winifred b 27 March 1907 and Horace b 1910.

My Father George W Fry was Joseph's 4th child and married mother Ellen Lilian Jane Clark on 8 September 1926 at Emanuel Church Camberwell London S.E.5.

There were 5 children from this marriage. George Francis ‎(Frank)‎ myself born 5 February 1928 now a Retired Structural Engineer, John William b 23 December 1929 Scaffolder selfemployed who died 22 December 1998, Ronald George Wheeler b 22 December 1932 who died 24 April 1933. David Edward Eugene b 28 June 1935 and lastly Christopher Peter b 12 November 1939.

Three of us boys are still living Frank in NZ David in Bradford Yorkshire
and Christopher in Petts Wood Bromley Kent.
I am still unable to find any references to my 1st Johns birth or death on the IGI etc,
